Hypopressives are a breath and posture led exercise programme, designed in Belgium in the 1980s by Dr. Marcel Caufriez. They were designed specifically for postpartum women with pelvic floor dysfunction however they can be extremely valuable for pelvic floor health for men and women, including those who have not had a child or been pregnant.
In practice, hypopressives are a series of postures combined with a unique breathing technique that decreases intra-abdominal pressure on the pelvic floor and tissues surrounding the core.
They are a valuable practice that can help to heal pelvic floor dysfunction along with a wide variety of other benefits.
